Composition Program Workshop on ESL in the Classroom

Please join us this Friday (3/31) at 3 PM in room #10302 for a special guest workshop that will present practical tips for working with non-native English writers in the classroom. This workshop will be facilitated by Holley Ruesch and Sarah Tipton from Wayne State’s English Language Institute.

A description of this workshop provided by the facilitators:

Based on established pedagogy, classroom experience and cases from the WRT Zone, we will discuss the writing backgrounds of non-native English students at WSU and their varying degrees of experience and perceptions of themselves as writers.  We will cover difficulties students have regarding understanding writing assignments, using rubrics, employing process approach techniques, avoiding plagiarism, and repairing sentence-level grammar errors. Practical suggestions will be offered, and participants will be invited to contribute.
